Meet the Teachers
About our teachers:
Andrea Schmidt: Director | Preschool Assistant
Andrea Schmidt has been with SLC since 2006. She began as the Pre-K teacher, but after her second year, was promoted to director. Andrea received a bachelor’s degree in interpersonal communications and elementary education (K-8), from William Paterson University. She began her preschool education career almost 20 years ago when she began working as an after school assistant in Raritan, NJ and continued throughout college and the years following. Andrea has a son who attended SLC for 4 years and graduated from the kindergarten program in 2012. They live in Flemington.
Kelly Williamson: Administrative Assistant| Teacher’s Aide
Kelly has been working at the Stanton Learning Center since 1990. She began working here in the afternoons as an aide for the after school program. Kelly has been working as the administrative assistant for the past eight years. Kelly also helps out in the classrooms whenever she is needed. Kelly is married with two sons. Her two sons both attended PreK at SLC.
Joyce Lykes: Teacher’s Assistant and Program Supervisor
Joyce has been a resident of Readington, for 32 years and is married with three children. She and her family are members of the Stanton Reformed Church. Joyce has her masters in Education and has taught in the North Brunswick Township Public School System. Additionally, Joyce has been involved in Girl Scouts for many years, in various leadership positions and is currently a member of the Readington museum committee. Joyce has worked at SLC since 2004 as an aide, teacher, after school coordinator and assistant director.
Barbara Bonsma: Preschool Teacher
Barbara graduated from the Universtiy of Maryland and lives in Branchburg with her husband John. She has 2 sons, Ryan and Craig. Barbara’s favorite color is green, loves sports and any outdoor activities. She has been a preschool teacher for over 15 years and loves her job! She has been teaching 3 year olds for 15 years.
Jennifer Jones: Pre K and Transitional Kindergarten Teacher
Jennifer studied education/special education at Seton Hall University. She has lived in the Stanton area for almot 20 years and has loved every minute up it. Jennifer loves teaching and seeing children learn and have that “ah ha” moment. She is a member of the Stanton Reformed Church.
Lori Serrani: Teacher’s Assistant
Miss Lori, a Stanton local, is an active member and Deacon of the Stanton Reformed Church. She has two sons ages 6 and 9. They both attended Stanton Learning Center for preschool and are now in school full-time. She’s been a stay-at-home Mom for the past 9 years and now enjoys supervising and playing with the SLC children while her children are in school.
Patty Kavanaugh: Transitional Kindergarten Art Teacher and Afterschool Teacher
has been a resident of Readington Township for most of her life. Patty lives with her husband Chris and two daughters, who both attended Stanton Learning Center. Patty is the arts and crafts teacher for our Transitional Kindergarten program and works with our extended day and before and after care children in the afternoon. She thoroughly enjoys working with the children and loves to be creative with art projects.
Jessica Murphy: Pre-K Teacher
graduated from The College of NJ with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood/Elementary Education with a minor in Daycare Management. She has taught kindergarten, first and their grades and has been a preschool teacher for 21 years! Jessica finds teaching a great joy and rewarding experience. She lives in Hillsborough with her husband Bob and dog Sophie. She has two daughters, Nicole and Krista who are in their twenties.
Meet our substitute teachers:
MaryAnn Paterniti holds a B.S in Education from Trenton State College , (which is now The College of NJ), and is certified to teach Pre-school, and Elementary K-8.
She’s been associated with Stanton Learning Center since 1998 and has experience with every age group. She developed and taught the Full-Day Kindergarten and Kindergarten Enrichment programs for over 10 years. She’s also taught the 3 year old class and Pre-K.
She is married with 2 children in their 20’s. For fun, she likes to ski and play the djembe, (an African hand drum).
Miss MaryAnn is also a professional storyteller and shares many multi-cultural stories with all the children in our school.
She loves children and looks for the good in everyone.
Meet our after school aides:
Joyce, see above, is the afterschool coordinator and manages all after school activities.
Patty, see above, is an after school teacher and assistants Joyce in managing after school aides and activities
Hailey Dugan is a student at Hunterdon Central Regional High School who attended SLC for nine years and came back to work. When Hailey is not at SLC, she is very involved in her school’s National Art Honors Society, a community service centered art society. Hailey would like to pursue education and languages in college and has goals of becoming a teacher.
