GIVING BACK THIS GIVING SEASON
New to STANTON LEARNING CENTER…
Caring Kid’s Camp and Family Service Nights!!
CARING KID’S CAMP is a unique program that is offered over the summer. Our goal during these weeks is to inspire kids to care, engage them in social awareness and teach them that everyone has a role in his/her community. We do this through stories, visits from special guests, and engaging children in hands-on learning projects. Projects are fun, meaningful and serve a real community need. Some examples include decorating paper lunch bags for a local Meals on Wheels program, creating cards for chronically ill children, assembling sandwiches for a local homeless shelter and so much more!
This past summer we able to donate homemade cat toys and dog treats to St. Hubert’s in North Branch, assembled toiletry and healthy food bags for infants and toddlers for the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Somerset County, decorated bags and made place mats for Meals and Wheels in Flemington and packaged birthday bags for children of the Ronald McDonald House in New Brunswick.
Look for information on out next camp session in February 2015.
FAMILY SERVICES NIGHTS offer the same opportunities and values as CARING KID’S CAMP but include the entire family. The concept for these events come from the Twin Cities-based nonprofit, Doing Good Together. They outline the importance of family volunteerism as follows:
• Brings parents and children closer by inspiring conversations about values.
• Increases children’s appreciation and respect for their parents as they see them as more of a team.
• Strengthens communication patterns in families.
• Involves parents as role models for proactive social behavior.
• Helps families develop a sense of pride and purpose, and the feeling of being a part of the community.
Family Services nights are on Friday’s beginning at 6:30 pm. This offer is available to children 2 and up. We rely on donations from the community and local business to finance these events. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!
